When preparing for your Kilimanjaro trek with Re Leone Tanzania Safaris, keeping your total luggage to a maximum of 15 kg is essential. Any extra gear can be safely stored at our office in Moshi town. Below is a comprehensive packing guide to ensure you are fully prepared for the mountain.

Trekking Essentials
Trekking Poles: adjustable poles for stability on steep terrain
Trekking Boots: comfortable trekking boots or mid-top hiking shoes
Socks: minimum 3 pairs thick mountaineering socks and 3 pairs liner socks
Clothing Layers
Short Underwear: 1–2 pairs of synthetic underwear
Long Underwear: 1–2 lightweight long underwear pants and shirts
Heavy Long Underwear: 1 pair for cold nights and summit
Trekking Pants: nylon pants for warm days
Soft Shell Jacket: hooded jacket for wind and moderate weather
Soft Shell Pants: for trekking and climbing
Insulated Jacket: PrimaLoft or down for warmth
Expedition Down Parka: hooded down jacket with 800 minimum down fill
Insulated Pants: PrimaLoft or down with full side zippers
Hard Shell Jacket & Pants: waterproof and windproof for wet conditions
Head and Face Protection
Headlamp: with extra batteries
Warm Hat: fleece or wool

Sleeping Bag: rated to at least -20°F (down preferred)
Compression Stuff Sacks: for sleeping bag and down jacket
Self-Inflating Pad: full-length air mattress
Closed Cell Foam Pad: full-length for extra insulation
Hydration and Sun Protection
Water Bottles: 2 × 1L capacity
Water Bottle Parkas: to prevent freezing
Pee Bottle: 1+ L capacity
Pee Funnel: for women
Sunscreen: SPF 50+

Small Personal First Aid Kit: athletic tape, bandages, Ibuprofen, Moleskin, blister care, personal meds, cough drops
Medications
It is important to bring necessary medications to prevent or treat altitude-related and other illnesses:
Acetazolamide (Diamox): for altitude sickness
Antibiotics (e.g., Ciprofloxacin, Azithromycin) for gastrointestinal or respiratory infections
Ibuprofen: for muscle soreness
Pepto Bismol: for loose stools
Excedrin: for headaches
Anti-nausea medications
Climbing Snacks
To maintain energy throughout the trek, pack high-calorie snacks:
Electrolyte Replacement Drink Mix: for 6 days
Energy Gel Packs: such as GU, Clif Shot, Powergel
Energy Bars: Power Bar, Clif Bar, etc.
Candy Bars: Snickers, Mars, Twix, Milky Way, etc.
